We Are Helping Artists and Writers Cure Mental Blocks
A powerful new treatment is helping artists and writers successfully overcome psychological paralysis and mental blocks preventing them from achieving success in their field. Developed by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst this amazing therapy—Neurolease™—takes an innovative approach to identifying the root of most mental blocks. Coupling non-verbal therapy and unique massage techniques, Neurolease™ focuses on restoring the body’s natural balance, empowering it to unblock—and heal—itself!
We’ve all heard of writers block: the successful writer sits down at the keyboard to begin work on her next great novel, only to realize that she can’t find the words to start. In fact, so-called “writers block” can happen to anyone who relies on creativity and the free flow of ideas. Whatever the root cause—pressure to produce the next “great” work, fear of failure, belief that they aren’t “good enough” to succeed, and so on—the result is frustrating and ultimately self-defeating: once the cycle of negative thinking begins, it only serves to reinforce the mental block, leading to more negative thinking and ongoing psychological paralysis. The goal of Neurolease™ is to break that cycle of negative thinking.
How Does Neurolease™ Work?
Neurolease™ works by restoring the natural and healthy balance between the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. A few simple definitions will help bring this into greater clarity! The sympathetic nervous system controls the body’s “flight, fight, or freeze” response, our unconscious way of coping with a threat, real or perceived. The parasympathetic nervous system controls the “relax, repair, and restore” response, our body’s ability to address and correct emotional trauma. In an individual suffering from mental blocks, the sympathetic nervous system is overstimulated and unable to “turn off”, thus preventing the parasympathetic nervous system from providing emotional balance and health.
Neurolease™ breaks the cycle of negative thinking at the root of mental blocks by teaching the sympathetic nervous system to recognize that it is overreacting to a perceived threat, when in fact no such threat exists. Once the sympathetic nervous system understands when and how to “turn off”, the parasympathetic nervous system can properly engage to trigger the body’s ability to relax, repair, and restore. By restoring this natural balance between “flight, fight, or freeze” and “relax, repair, and restore”, Neurolease™ untangles the toxic emotions creating psychological paralysis and enables the writer to find her voice again and the artist to rediscover his creativity.
What Does a Neurolease™ Treatment Involve?
Neurolease™ involves a powerful combination of tactile processing and cognitive therapy. The first step is developing an appropriate treatment plan during an initial intake meeting between the patient and therapist. Each Neurolease™ treatment takes place in a private, relaxing setting on a traditional massage table; patients can be dressed to their level of comfort (although minors must be fully dressed and accompanied at all times by a guardian). While the tactile processing, typically by a licensed massage therapist, creates and enhances feelings of safety and relaxation, the cognitive therapist guides the mind through images and exercises designed to appropriately stimulate the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.
Like all forms of therapy, Neurolease™ can be both powerful and intense. Unlike traditional therapy, the verbal interaction between therapist and patient during the treatment session is actually quite minimal. All we ask is that you listen to your body and open your mind to the idea of being clear and grounded. At the same time, however, the intense feelings sparked by Neurolease™ can create an overpowering feeling of needing to nap, especially at the beginning of treatment. While many patients fight this urge, we actually encourage it because your body and your mind need this additional time to restore the correct emotional balance!
